Frequently Asked Questions

What is Qurbani?

Qurbani (Sacrifice) or Udh'hiyyah is an emphasised Sunnah that is legislated for both men and women. It is an act of worship to Allah and a reflection of Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismaeil, for the sake of Allah. Ismail was replaced with a ram. The Prophet (Peace be upon im) used to sacrifice two rams every year, one of himself and his family, and the other other on behalf of his ummah who were not able to sacrifice.

How is Qurbani performed at Humaniti?

Humaniti has already prearranged and paid for livestock (that strictly meets the requirements of Qurbani) ahead of time.

All animals are sacrificed on the days of Eid and distributed to those in need to enjoy these blessed days of Eid.

We assess and identify which families have higher priority in receiving your Qurbani. The families most in need are assessed according to the following criteria:

- Families who live on less than the minimum income for that particular country
- Female-headed households
- Families with disabled and/or elderly persons
- Children under five years old
- Pregnant women
- Breastfeeding mothers
- Families with little or no access to the market

Where do you distribute Qurbani?

We are providing vulnerable families with fresh Qurbani meat in 7 countries including: India, Pakistan, Cox's Bazar (Rohingya Refugees), Yemen, Palestine, Somaliland, and Afghanistan.

Do you need to give all the names of the people who are giving Qurbani? And will their names be called out during slaughter?

No, as it will be strenuous to recite the names of all the thousands of donors. Scholars have approved the sacrifice without the names as long as the intention of the person was made. We encourage everyone to make their intention when donating their Qurbani.

Until when can I make my Qurbani payments?

Updated: The last order will be accepted on June 27th, 2023 at 11:59PM EST Toronto Time.

Can we offer more than one Qurbani?

Yes! You are allowed to offer more than one sacrifice. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) himself carried out multiple Qurbani for himself and the Ummah. You may offer a Qurbani on behalf of your father or mother, and loved ones (living or deceased).

If someone intends to offer a sacrifice, when should they stop clipping their nails?

The Prophet (Peace be upon him) “When you see the new moon of Dhul Hijjah, and one of you desires that he offer a sacrifice, then let him keep [i.e. not cut] his hair and nails.” (Sahih Muslim v. 13, p. 2452)

We provided over $175K worth of Qurbani last year. Let's provide $375K worth this year to bring smiles to the vulnerable with YOUR Qurbani THIS EID, insha'Allah!

Many families only eat meat once a year at this time. The joy of Eid belongs to every family. You can be a part of the solution.

Dr. Omar Suleiman - "Humaniti is looking to make a change. Looking to be able to meet the need and to carry out insha'Allah Ta'Allah the work that we all should be carrying out so that less people from our global humanity go to sleep hungry."
